Presbyterian religion beliefs?

I'm not Presbyterian but I recently went to a church function and their were a lot of Presbyterians there. I'd like to know more about their religion. Like what do they believe in, why do the women wear skirts and don't cut their hair, and anything else you could possibly tell me would be greatly appreciated.
