Short Periods after Coming off birth control?

I was put on birth control nearly a year ago because of very bad periods. I stopped taking it in April because it was becoming tiresome and had a very heavy period in May and a normal one in June. I didn't finish the pack because my doctor suggested that I stopped birth control for a while for observation as to whether or not it was causing my persistent yeast infection. Because of the break in hormones, I believe, I had another average period in late June however my period in July and August after not using any birth control at all has only been two days of bleeding. I am wondering if this is normal as my body adjusts to being off the pill because I find it very odd that I would have lighter periods off the pill than on the pill.
