Can I play Neverwinter Nights 1 Platinum Online with a friend in the UK?

I love Neverwinter Nights singleplayer, I recently found a friend who would enjoy it too. I have never played online. I am going to purchase a copy for the both of us, would we be able to play a game together online? They live in the UK and I live on the west coast of USA. The only reason I am purchasing a copy for the both of us is specifically for us to play together online. If there are different servers where we would be unable to match together... please let me know so I can avoid spending money on purchasing this game if we cannot play together.
