U.S. FSO (foreign service officer): Can he refuse to take an unaccompanied tour?

He can, but if he does, he could be forced to leave the Foreign Service. Every officer joins with the understanding that he or she is available for worldwide ignement. there's no guarantee that he would be separated from the service, but he could be. however, if he's igned and breaks that ignment, he would be bidding on a much smaller pool of available ignments. In reality, spouses and children are also expected to be healthy enough to be stationed worldwide, and your medical issues could impact on his ability to be selected as an officer depending on how serious it really is, in the opinion of the medical section. as for taking leave, you can take it whenever you like, and can afford it. spouses don't have any limitations on that, unless they are also working at the emby.
